AirAsia launches Daily Flights between Bangkok and Bali

AirAsia has launched direct daily flights to Bali from Bangkok.

The route which opened for bookings in December strengthens AirAsia's rapidly growing network in the region.

The low cost airline also launched flights on Tuesday between Guangzhou, China and Bangkok.

Both routes are operated by Thai AirAsia, an associate of the AirAsia group.

To celebrate the launch, AirAsia is offering special online fares for flights to Bali from Bangkok from THB999+++ one way.

To avail the special promotion bookings must be made by 1 February 2009, for travel between 9 February and 30 April 2009.

The daily flights to Bali depart Bangkok at 06:15 to arrive in Denpasar at 11:25. Flights from Denpasar leave at 11:55 for a 15:20 scheduled arrival in Bangkok.

Singapore Airlines to launch A380 Flights to Paris in June

Singapore Airlines is to launch Airbus A380 flights between Singapore and Paris in June 2009. The daily A380 flights between Singapore and Paris will replace the existing 10 times weekly 278-seat Boeing 777-300ER operations.

Configured with 471 seats, the introduction of a daily A380 on the Paris route will allow Singapore Airlines to match the growing demand of seats from both corporate and leisure customers, and better contribute to the economic development between France and the Asia Pacific region.

Paris is the airline's fourth A380 destination, its first in Continental Europe, and its second in Europe after London. Singapore Airlines already flies the A380 daily to Sydney and Tokyo, and twice a day to London.

Mr Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines' Executive Vice-President, Marketing and the Regions, said, "Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris is one of the busiest airports in Europe in terms of passenger traffic. The A380, with its large seating capacity, is well place to fly there. With the aircraft's susbantial fuel burn reductions per seat kilometre, it also provides a cleaner, greener alternative for long haul travel".

The ergonomically designed new Economy Class seats on the A380 not only maximise knee and legroom, they also boast intelligent features such as a non-intrusive reading light and height adjustable leather headrests with side panels.

Due to the increased cabin width on the A380, the Business Class seats are even wider. Measuring 86 centimeres (34 inches), each seat has direct access to the aisle, and converts into a fully flat bed within seconds.

The A380 also features the impressive Singapore Airlines Suites. Each Suite, enclosed by sliding doors for privacy, is fitted with a leather-upholstered seat, a 23-inch LCD screen for inflight entertainment, and a full-sized flat bed that is seperate from the seat.

Across all three classes, KrisWorld, the airline's inflight entertainment system, offers more 1,000 on-demand options in every seat.

Singapore Airlines currently has six A380's in service, a further 13 on firm order, and options on six more. The introduction of the A380 on the Paris route will follow the delivery of the seventh and eighth A380s in the first half of 2009.

JAL Reduces Flights to Bangkok, Beijing and Shanghai

The JAL Group has confirmed that it will temporarily reduce flight frequency on three international routes in response to a decline in demand.

The flight frequency on JAL's Tokyo - Bangkok route will be reduced from 21 to 14 flights per week, effective from January 20 to March 28, 2009.

From February 10 to March 28, 2009, the flight frequency will be reduced on two China routes with the Tokyo - Beijing route decreasing from 19 to 14 flights per week, and the Tokyo (Narita) - Shanghai route decreasing from 28 to 21 flights per week.

Tiger Airways Takes Delivery of First A319

Tiger Airways's first Airbus A319 aircraft arrived in Singapore on Monday evening straight from the factory in Hamburg.

Rosalynn Tay, managing director of Tiger Airways of Singapore said, "I am so excited about growing out fleet. With more places we are able to have even more low low fares for travellers. The best thing about this place is that it is 98% the same as our A320s but with less seats and a lower operating cost. This is the perfect aircraft for route development and ensures that the airline is in the right position to exploit new opportunities as they are presented".

The A319 has been successfully operated with low fare airlines across the world with significant fleets in service with airlines such as EasyJet and Spirit.

Rosalynn Tay said, "the A319 is a proven low fare aircraft type. With these additional aircraft we have the opportunity to aggressively expand our paw print to more destinations with our famous low low fares".

IATA welcomes Positive Decision on Third Runaway at Heathrow

International Air Transport Association Director General and CEO Giovanni Bisignani has expressed his support to the decision by the U.K. Government decision to add a third runway at London Heathrow.

"The U.K. Government made the right decision. The third runway allows Heathrow to grow, and, more importantly, it will be an enormous economic catalyst by better connecting the London and U.K. economies to global business," said Bisignani.

"Growth must be environmentally responsible. The environmentally responsible. The environmental restrictions on the third runway are challenging," Bisignani added.

"IATA's four pillar strategy on climate change-focused on improved technology, effective operations, efficient infrastructure and positive economic measures - is delivering real results. Since 2004 we saved over 59 million tonnes of CO2. Moreover, as a result of the efficiencies that our industry continues to put in place, we have limited our CO2 emissions to 2% of the global total. Our track record is impressive. And no industry is as ambitious about its future. I am confident that the environmental impact of the third runway can be managed effectively," Bisignani concluded.
